ABOUT THE RACE
The
Salinas Sports Complex marked the spot of the Inaugural Salinas
TT, the first AMA Pro Grand National Event held on the Central
Coast. This venue was located in the Northern portion of
beautiful Monterey County, often referred to as Steinbeck
Country. The TT was approximately ¼ mile long with a right hand
turn and a jump. The track was a cushion track; fast with a long
straightaway and a sweeping turn 1. As well as being the 100
year home to the California Rodeo, the Sports Complex has hosted
many amateur races over the years. Many of the amateurs who have
ridden these races have gone on to become professionals in the
AMA Pro Grand National circuit. The complex seated more than
17,000 spectators, from grandstand seats to reserved, elevated
box seats overlooking the arena.
This all day,
family-friendly event include Rocky Robinson, the motorcycle
world land speed record holder (376.363 mph) with his winning
streamliner “Ack Attack!”; a visit from the Easter Bunny for the
kiddies and an amazing motorcycle show put on by Lorin Guy.
